Ethan practically tackles her when they meet again, holding her until she aches and then some.
"I'm going to the Stone now and none of you can stop me," Ashlyn declares. "I can stay there for at least a day, and we won't be there that long!"
Arielle grins, cuffing her back and making her wheeze. "We totally can stop you - but we won't. You need to make your own decisions on some things if you're going to be a mage. If we tell you to leave, though, you need to go. You could become a dangerous liability."
Ashlyn nods, rubbing her back. "...point taken. Man - I haven't even held any spells yet."
Hurrin lands nearby, sighing. "I'm sorry I couldn't help. I... I don't know. I'm starting to feel like maybe the others have the right idea. I need to stay here and keep things running, though. Someone has to."
Ashlyn goes over and hugs him again. "You're not inadequate. You're beautiful and now we're best friends!"
He sniffs, hugging her back. "...if you can help us, I'll be forever grateful. Go on... I'll be here."
There is no need of a connection, but Valerie knows there will be a task. They pick a direction, seeking to elevate their minds once again. They leave the realm of the Forgotten behind, and travel through a place of mist as they rise from the collective unconscious to something deeper - the dream the world's soul has.
"To cross from the Temenos to the Omphalos stone," Arielle says in memory, "the travelers must confront something drawn from humanity's collective imagination. Surviving is all that is required, though each one is a Mystery that can be confronted."
As if called, the mists part to reveals a gaping chasm - and boy, them without their wings. The bottom is lost in churning mist, maybe nothing at all, and the other side is far away, at least a quarter of a mile distant.
"Oh come on," Ethan groans.
